The idea

We work one private oak woodland near Nottingham, by permission of its owner, helping clear timber that has already come down — storm-thrown, wind-snapped, or simply old. No tree is ever cut standing.

That oak is seasoned slowly, then shaped entirely by hand into pieces that keep the character of the tree they came from. Nothing is repeated, because nothing we start with can be.

What we add beyond the craft is a record: who owns which piece, from the day it leaves our workshop onward.

How a piece is made

From woodland floor to registered object

Gathered, not felled

We walk the woodland with the owner, selecting oak that has already come down. Nothing standing is ever touched.

Seasoned slowly

Air-dried for many months so the timber settles honestly before it is ever shaped.

Made by hand

Cut, worked and finished by hand in our workshop, one piece at a time, never as a batch.

Registered & certified

Numbered, entered in the Velique registry against your name, and issued with a certificate of ownership.

Every Velique piece is entered into a private registry under the piece’s name and its owner’s name. You receive a certificate of ownership at purchase. If you later sell, gift, or pass a piece on, you can notify us so the registry — and the certificate that follows the piece — stays accurate.

Who’s behind it

Two people, one wood, one workshop.

Velique is run by two friends who would rather make one registered, unrepeatable piece a week than a hundred identical ones a day. Every stage — sourcing, seasoning, making, registering — stays under our own roof.

What makes a Velique piece unique?+
Each piece is made from a single trunk of wind-fallen oak, so the grain, knots and shape are never repeated. We make in single pieces, not runs, and every item is numbered and entered in our registry under its own name.
How much does a piece cost?+
Pieces typically range from £400 to £1,600, depending on size, complexity and the character of the timber used. Each price is confirmed individually once a piece is registered and ready.
Where does the oak come from?+
All our timber comes from one private woodland near Nottingham. We work with the landowner’s permission as part of their ongoing woodland management, collecting trees that have already come down.
Do you ever cut down trees?+
No. We only collect oak that has already fallen, whether from storm damage, age, or natural woodland thinning. No standing tree is ever felled for Velique.
What is the Certificate of Ownership?+
Every piece is sold with a certificate recording the piece’s name, registry number, material, origin, and the registered owner’s name. It is your proof of authenticity and provenance.
Can I transfer ownership if I sell or gift a piece?+
Yes. Registered owners can notify us of a change of ownership, and we update the registry entry so the certificate stays accurate for the next owner.
Is the wood sustainably sourced?+
Yes. We only use timber that has already fallen from a single, permission-based woodland source, rather than commissioning any tree to be cut.
How long does a piece take to make?+
Seasoning alone takes many months, followed by hand shaping and finishing. Because every piece is made individually, timelines vary — we confirm this before you register interest.
Do you take bespoke or commissioned pieces?+
We consider a limited number of commissions each year, subject to suitable oak being available from our woodland. Register your interest and we will contact you directly.
